The debut novel from Normal People’s Sally Rooney has now been adapted in a new BBC drama.

Conversations with Friends has been highly anticipated since the wide success of Normal People.

Set in Dublin, the new programme follows the lives of ex-girlfriends Frances and Bobbi as they find themselves entangled with a mysterious couple.

Starring in the series are Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn, as Nick Conway, Girls star Jemima Kirke as Melissa Conway, and complete newcomer Alison Oliver as Frances Flynn.

Meanwhile, Sasha Lane has undertook the role of Bobbi Connolly. But, who is the American actress taking on the role of Bobbi?

Sasha, 26, has had an unconventional rise to fame, after she was scouted randomly on a Florida beach when she was just 19.

The British film director Andrea Arnold who spotted the rising star in the film American Honey opposite Shia LaBeouf, whom she previously dated.

In 2020, just before lockdown hit Sasha, originally from Hudson, Texas became a mother to Aster Cairo, now two.

Speaking to The Times, Sasha said: “After I had my daughter I made the choice to be a single mom and then a pandemic happened.

“Looking at my kid, there is no way I can tell her, ‘You’ve gotta love yourself,’ or, ‘Mommy did everything she could for you,’ if I didn’t.

“So I had no choice but to be stronger and make smart decisions and to let things just roll off my back and … find a different way, basically.”

Sasha said her daughter is a very happy child, and is going to be introduced a wide range of people as the actress travels around the world for work.

While on set of Conversations with Friends, Sasha’s brother helped out by moving over to Ireland for the filming period to babysit Aster.

Sasha can also be seen starring in Apple TV’s The Crowded Room, set to hit screens next year, starring alongside Spiderman actor, Tom Holland.

BBC’s Conversations with Friends centres around Frances and her best friend and ex-girlfriend Bobbi in Dublin. As the pair are performing spoken-word poetry, they are noticed by Melissa.

She invites the students back to the home she shares with her husband Nick, with their lives becoming more and more entwined as Frances begins an affair with Nick, while Bobbi and Melissa also grow close.

It was highly anticipated following the success from Sally’s previous novel adaptation, Normal People, that propelled Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones to Stardom in 2020.

Based on the novel by Sally Rooney, Conversations with Friends can be seen on BBC One or on BBC iPlayer on Sunday’s.
