Man Utd told to back off from ‘untouchable’ Leeds star; ‘working to sign’ Bundesliga ‘keeper
Leeds United have told their arch-rivals Man Utd that Illan Meslier is ‘untouchable’ as they have ‘no intention’ to sell the goalkeeper.
In what is a surprise to absolutely no one, Man Utd are scrambling for signings with just two weeks to go until the summer transfer window closes.
They have already signed Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia this summer. But on the evidence of their defeats against Brighton and Brentford, they are in need of a lot more.

One area they are looking to strengthen is their goalkeeping department. They are in need of a new backup shot-stopper and Leeds United’s Meslier is someone they are looking at.
The 22-year-old is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Europe and he has shone for Leeds over the past couple of seasons.
It is no secret that Man Utd and Leeds do not like each other so trying to sign Meslier was never likely to come to fruition.
Fabrizio Romano is now reporting that Leeds have ‘no intention’ to let Meslier leave the club.
The Frenchman is considered a ‘key’ part of their future so the club’s board consider him to be ‘untouchable’.
Leeds cannot really afford to lose Meslier, especially with Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips already moving on this summer.
Had Man Utd signed Meslier, he would have been the replacement for Dean Henderson, who has joined Nottingham Forest on loan.
The Englishman recently slammed United regarding their treatment of him last season and he has hit the ground running at Forest.
With Meslier off the table, Man Utd are also looking at signing Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
The Switzerland international was linked with Newcastle United earlier this summer before the Magpies signed Nick Pope.
Sommer is a respected goalkeeper as he has been capped 74 times for Switzerland since 2012.
The 33-year-old has also been Gladbach’s number one goalkeeper since 2014, playing 326 times in the process.
Given his experience in the Bundesliga and internationally, Sommer certainly is a viable option to come in as cover for De Gea.
Romano is also reporting that United are ‘working on’ a deal to sign Sommer.
He would be a cheaper alternative to other targets as his current contract at Gladbach expires in 2023.
The difficulty is that Sommer would be ‘tempted’ by a fresh contract offer to remain at Gladbach. So it is not cut and dry, which is in character for United.
